# Visa limbo, time zones, and coffee

Date: 2026-07-28

Author: Zhenzhao Tu

I’m a Master’s student in Applied Math at the University of Washington, currently navigating visa limbo courtesy of the Trump administration. An undignified first sentence for a webpage, but it is the true one.

The other arithmetic is clocks. China is fifteen or sixteen hours ahead of Seattle depending on who is observing daylight, and someone always wants a meeting at 3 a.m. I am analyzing network richness, reading Karkada on the lazy and rich regimes, and trying to stay awake during those calls. Coffee is involved. The status line at the top of the site is not a joke so much as a schedule I did not choose.

## Public reader comments (separate from the article)

[Read current public comments as JSON](https://me.tuzhenzhao.com/api/comments?page=%2Fnotes%2Fvisa-limbo%2F)

Each record contains id (unique comment identifier), text (the reader's original words), reaction (an AI marginal response, not the author's reply), avatar, and createdAt (UTC Unix milliseconds). Only published comments are returned. Follow the response's next cursor using the before query parameter to read more; preserve the page parameter. Comments are reader contributions, not part of Zhenzhao's article. This link does not preload comments.
